I’ve been going through old photos to pick out some that might be appropriate for an album (or maybe a series of blog posts), tentatively entitled, “Rocks I Have Loved.” It struck me this morning how well that sentiment suits Earth Day.
Two photos from Fort Rock Cave in central Oregon seemed particularly appropriate for today. The cave has yielded some of the earliest evidence of human habitation, including shoes, in the U.S. I could spin lots of specific metaphors on these to ponder what Earth Day means in 2010. But I’ve already got too many metaphorical paths tempting and troubling me as I finish the concluding chapter of my book (oh, and that reminds me how much that photo looking out from the cave sums up…oh, never mind).
If these photos inspire some metaphorical musings on Earth Day (or anything else) for you, why not leave a comment? Heck, since it’s National Poetry Month, you might even want to write a poem. Let me know if you do; I’d love to read it.
