The High Desert Journal has accepted another poem of mine, this time for Issue 11 of their print journal, due out in April. Although it doesn’t focus exclusively on cows, my sestina, “Now That I’ve Moved Inland,” does feature them in every stanza.

The cover on the last issue featured Nate Ronniger's painting, which inspired my first poem. Can't wait to see what's on the cover of Issue 11.
I still find it hilarious that my first ever published poem was about cows (also published by High Desert Journal, but in their online edition). That makes two of my first three published poems about cows (my second is about a son’s coming of age in Nepal). Just to keep things weird, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for one of my reptilian or amphibian poems (I have an embarrassing number of these) to be accepted next.
The High Desert Journal offers free trial issues. A one year subscription is $16. You can also find it in many independent bookstores throughout the West.
