I’m miles from town, so there will be no trick or treaters for me tonight. Instead, I’ve decided to mark the day by highlighting some posts I’ve written on creatures that tend to be maligned, misunderstood and caricatured on Halloween.
Click on the images below to learn more about a particular species in each group. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Some of my favorite creatures, starting with the horned lizard. This is a fabulous way of celebrating this holiday!
Thanks, Deb. The horned lizard is one of my favorites too. I’m working on tarantulas.
Neat post for Halloween! I love tarantulas and miss seeing them migrate in spring (or whatever it is they do en masse). Have only ever once had one in the house – a very old shack of a place with lots of holes in the walls. It walked in, saw us, and sauntered out (it didn’t really scurry).
Thanks. Though I love reptiles, amphibians and bats, I must confess to being an arachnophobe. Tarantulas are particularly hard for me. I’ve been working through it by writing about them and trying to develop compassion. They are amazing creatures.
