I’m in Central Oregon this week with a steady wi-fi connection, so I can begin to catch up on some internet work, including long overdue reports on the latest bird activities around my Northeast Oregon yurt.
I’ve finally identified the species that hatched out of the eggs I discovered in a rusty tool box on a an old, horse-drawn binder. They’re house wrens. Now that I’ve learned to recognize they’re song and their rattlesnake-like scolding call, I hear and see them everywhere.
Here’s a recap. The eggs were brown and nestled in a rough nest of twigs inside the box. When the lid to the old tool box was closed, the nest was well-hidden. Parents entered through a hole on the side: very sneaky.
